I'm Married to a Stranger

I’m married to a stranger,

I no longer know who he is,

He used to be so perfect,

He was everything I could have wished,

Smiles would fill our home and the noise of laughs out loud,

We were blessed with two children of whom we were so proud,

I’m married to a stranger,

I no longer know who he is,

A knock came to my door,

And shattered everything,

I couldn’t stop the tears, the sweat dripped down my neck,

The panic spread through me as I listened to what they said,

I’m married to a stranger,

I no longer know who he is,

He’s kept a lot of secrets,

There’s a life he’s lived that he has hid,

But now the secrets out,

I can’t unhear the words,

I can’t ignore what I now know,

I think he will have to go,

I am married to a stranger,

I no longer know who he is,

He’s paying a hefty price,

For all the wrong he did,

It hurts so much to lose him,

It feels like he is dead,

A broken shell of a man stands before me instead,

I am married to a stranger,

But he is telling me everything,

Some things I wish I didn’t know,

I think I understand him now,

I don’t think I want him to go,

I am married to a stranger,

It’s a different man I see,

He isn’t perfect any more,

But maybe perfect does not exist,

Laughs are few and instead we have more tears,

We are working on things together now,

We can’t give up on us after all these years,

I’m married to a man,

I didn’t know before,

He once felt like a stranger,

But I’m dealing with what I know,

It still hurts and it’s not easy,

It’s a life I didn’t choose,

But he is also a man I know I cannot allow myself to lose.
