Welcome to Our Website

Updated: Jul 1, 2023

Welcome to The World According to the Knock website.

Our new website has officially launched on 30/06/23.

Thank you for stopping by, it’s lovely to have you here. We hope that you will find all that you need.

So, what inspired the creation of this website?

As we know, the fallout of the Knock is huge. People are alone, and they have no idea how to navigate the path ahead.

As a community, we have the power and knowledge to guide one another through this journey. It’s about time that the community have a forum of our own. A place for us to come together, to ask and answer questions, to support one another, to find comfort, hope and understanding.

Susan Smith, founding member of The World According to the Knock, explains the idea behind the creation of the website:

‘People will hopefully feel solace and it will give them the information they need to navigate this journey.

There is a forum on the website, containing eleven different sections. The sections, (which follow The Wizard of Oz theme of season one of our podcast) have been based on community feedback, and represent different topics, and different parts of our journey. This is designed to create a safe space for people going through different elements of the Knock, and to try and minimise forum users being triggered.’

The sections are as follows:

1) We’re not in Kansas any more (general discussion)

2) Dorothy’s Story (your own story)

3) The Tin Man (legal section)

4) The Scarecrow (social services/ children)

5) There’s no place like home (partners remaining in a relationship or undecided)

6) Click 3 times (partners no longer in a relationship)

7) Aunty Em & Uncle Henry (parents’ section)

8) Dorothy’s Family (siblings, aunts, uncles, friends)

9) House of a different colour (neurodiversity & mental health)

10) End of the yellow brick road (after sentencing)

11) The Wicked Witch's Castle (custodial sentences)

To register as a forum user, you will need to sign up. People will be manually approved. This process may take a little time as the site is run on a voluntary basis. Once you have been approved, you can post on the forum.

Only members can see the forum; it’s private in order to protect you, and so that you will feel able to post safely.

The website also has this blog section.

The idea behind the blog is that it’s a space for community members to tell their stories, express their views about a particular element of the Knock, or share something that would benefit the community.

We invite contributions from community guest bloggers. Contributing a blog post is a great way to have your voice heard, in your own words.

We believe in the spirit of community and that this platform should be of benefit to all who use it. There is no single voice or voices that can speak for us all; we each have the right to tell our story.

So, if you would like to contribute a blog, please email theworldaccordingtotheknock@gmail.com – we look forward to hearing from you. We encourage you to include a link to your own blog (if you have one) on your blog post.

There are links on the website to all of the episodes of the podcast The world according to the knock. This is to enable community members - and anyone who is interested in listening to the podcast - to locate episodes easily on the website.

Susan explains, ‘the website is something that will evolve and grow in response to community needs. I’m not technically minded, this is all new, so please bear with me. I’m still learning – I’m always learning and if mistakes crop up along the way we will work to rectify them as soon as we are able to.

The site is run on a voluntary basis so please be patient with us, as we are all working to maintain the site around our own life commitments and we are all on the post-Knock journey, with the daily challenges that can bring.

We hope that you will come and join us on the forum. It will be lovely to see you there.’
